Flame Cows, Watercolor Painting

I made this watercolor painting on location, in the early morning, at Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. The sun was beaming across the field and creating such a beautiful backlight on the grazing cows. It measures 9x12in, is done on high quality acid-free Canson 98lb mixed media paper and comes in protective plastic with card stock backing.

I spent a few days at Woodstock Sanctuary in the summer of 2014, sitting in the fields with the rescued animals and drawing/painting them. This painting was done during that time. Over the course of my visit, my color palette grew brighter, until I was only using these light-filled colors. I think they best capture the spirit of the happy animals there, who normally would live lives of unfathomable suffering.
